Playa Lagun is a narrow inlet tucked between tall limestone cliffs in the village of Lagun, on the west coast between Willemstad and Westpunt. The bay is protected on both sides, so the water is usually flat and clear, and colourful wooden fishing boats bob at their moorings. It is small, it is free, and it is one of the best places on the island to put your face in the water.
Snorkelling
Swim along either cliff wall towards the mouth of the bay and the rock is covered in coral, sponges and sea fans, with parrotfish, sergeant majors and often a sea turtle or two. Squid and the odd ray are regular sightings over the sandy middle. The deeper water at the mouth of the bay is a favourite with divers.
- Gear: a dive shop at the beach rents snorkel sets and runs dives.
- Entry: sandy, easy for beginners and children.
- Boats: stay away from the moorings and watch for fishermen coming in.
What to expect
There is not much sand, and space gets tight at weekends and when snorkel tours stop by. Shade is limited, so arrive early to grab a spot under the trees or bring an umbrella. A small snack bar and toilets are usually open. The cliffs give some afternoon shade at the back of the bay.
Lagun is a convenient stop on a road trip along the west coast: combine it with Cas Abao to the south and Playa Piskado to the north. Read more about this area in Lagun and Banda Abou. Snorkel boat trips often visit the bay too; compare them on GetYourGuide. For a car, check DiscoverCars, and for places to stay in the quiet west, browse Booking.com.

Usually, yes, at the dive shop on the beach. Bring your own to be sure.
