Things to do in Curaçao

Our favourite experiences, from turtle snorkelling to Willemstad's street art.

  1. Playa Piskado (Playa Grandi): A small fishing beach near Westpunt where green sea turtles graze a few metres from the shore.
  2. Klein Curaçao: A flat, uninhabited island off the southeast tip: white sand, turtles, an old lighthouse and a rusting shipwreck.
  3. Handelskade, Punda: The pastel waterfront that put Willemstad on every postcard, best seen from across the bay in Otrobanda.
  4. Playa Kenepa (Grote Knip): The postcard beach of Curaçao: a white crescent between cliffs, with a viewpoint everyone stops at.
  5. Christoffel National Park: Curaçao's largest national park, home to the island's highest peak and an early-morning summit hike.
  6. Shete Boka National Park: Thundering surf, a sea cave you can walk into and turtle nesting coves on Curaçao's rugged north coast.
  7. Tugboat Beach, Caracasbaai: A coral-covered tugboat wreck in shallow water, a short swim from a small beach at Caracasbaai.
  8. Hato Caves: Guided tours through limestone caves with stalactites, a bat colony and Amerindian rock drawings, five minutes from the airport.
  9. Kura Hulanda Museum: Curaçao's most important museum on the transatlantic slave trade, in restored 18th- and 19th-century buildings in Otrobanda.
  10. Queen Emma Bridge: A pedestrian bridge on floating pontoons that swings aside for every passing ship, linking Punda and Otrobanda.
  11. Landhuis Chobolobo: The 19th-century country house where the original Curaçao liqueur, blue and otherwise, is still distilled.
  12. Playa Lagun: A small, sheltered cove between steep cliffs, with calm water and some of the easiest snorkelling on the island.
  13. Cas Abao Beach: A well-run private beach with soft sand, turquoise water and every comfort, from loungers to a dive shop.
  14. Blue Room Cave: A sea cave near Santa Cruz where sunlight through an underwater opening turns the water electric blue.
  15. Flamingos at Jan Kok: Wild flamingos feeding in the old salt pans of Jan Kok, a free roadside stop on the way to the west-coast beaches.
